Park Lane goes the extra mile

- Tom Scargill

THE PASTORAL team at Park Lane Academy have taken steps to go the extra mile to support families during lockdown.

The Halifax high school’s minibus has been transformed into a mobile stationery and breakfast supplies van, with staff taking time to deliver essential home learning items to support students, allowing them to continue to learn remotely.

Among items provided by the school are pens, pencils, workbooks, food parcels, and reward packages.

These are in addition to the government schemes.

The school at Exley says it is passionate and committed about ensuring it supports students and to remove any barriers whilst home learning.

The delivery of stationery is in addition to providing over 31 per cent of their students with free laptops, internet dongles and extra SIM cards.

The minibus has made designated stops at various locations so that families and students can collect supplies whilst still meeting social distancing requirements.

Alison Black, Executive Principal said: “We recognise that families up and down the country are under huge pressure at present.

“Supporting families by ensuring they have the devices, equipment and essentials is our priority.

“We will continue to work tirelessly for all our students and their families during the lockdown period, ensuring everyone can access our live lesson offer and continue with their learning despite the current lockdown.

“Online learning rates are continuing to rise week by week are now well above those of national averages, a testament to the hard work and commitment of families, students and staff at the Academy.”

We will continue to work tirelessly for all our students and their families
