In the midst of the Championship and Challenge Cup draws, Halifax Panthers’ bolstered their ranks by signing Sam Hewitt on a season-long loan from Huddersfield Giants.

Hewitt, 21, who can play back row or centre, is a Giants academy product who made his Super League debut against Leeds Rhinos in 2018.

Hewitt said: “If you look at the the ambition of the club with the quality of signings that have been made and already within the squad its obvious that the goal come the end of the season is to be right up there and with a chance to win something and that’s important for me as I want to win.

“I think the squad will be definitely aiming for a top four finish with the aim to win something at the back end of year and I believe with quality in the squad that is a very realistic goal.”

Panthers head coach Simon Grix said: “Sam had a great year last year with some strong performances for the Giants.

“Having had Sam on dual registration before, we know what we are getting, both as a player and person, so we look forward to him joining us, adding to the competition within our forwards.”

Meanwhile, Panthers rolled out their new away kit range, which combines a black and yellow colour scheme.

“The response from fans all around the world has been incredible with orders from all over the UK, USA and even Australia,” said Gary Bray, Retail director of the Panthers.

“The warmth and excitement shown by the fans have been quite humbling and an indicator that we are on the right track.”

More information on the kit and the club’s new range of leisure wear can be found on the Panthers’ website.

The club held a social media takeover day on Valentine’s Day to help promote local sports clubs, businesses and charities in Calderdale.

Across various social media platforms, Panthers reach more than 50,000 people and they used that influence to give a helping hand to those organisations who’ve struggled during the past year.
