Green’s header salvages a point for ten-man Town

- Tom Scargill

FC HALIFAX Town boss Pete Wild thought a point was the least his side deserved after their 1-1 draw at home to Hartlepool United.

Mark Shelton’s goal gave Hartlepool a half-time lead, but Kieran Green’s header brought Town level before Danny Williams’ late red card.

“I thought our shape was excellent, I thought we contained them really well,” said Wild. “We probably kept, in my opinion, one of the best, if not the best, team in the league nullified, we kept their good lads quiet.

“With the quality that Jeff (King) has put in all evening in terms of set-pieces, it was only a matter of time before we got on the end of one. After that you think there’s only one team going to win it, unfortunately Dan (Williams) has took one for the team, he’s probably saved us a point let’s be honest about it. All things considered I think a point’s the least we deserved.”

Town were caught out with a short corner, which was worked to the unmarked Shelton

just inside the box, who swept the ball in across goal.

Town grew into the firsthalf, with Jack Earing hitting the post with a long-range shot and Tom Bradbury heading just wide at a corner.

Luke Armstrong could have twice extended Hartlepool’s lead, once when Sam Johnson brilliantly saved his close range shot and then when he flashed a shot across goal fom an angle.

But Green’s header dragged Town level as he nodded in King’s superb free-kick from near the left touchline, before Williams’ dismissal for denying a goalscoring opportunity late on.
