- Tom Scargill

THE GREETLAND Academy, West Vale Academy and Bowling Green Academy, all part of Great Heights Academy Trust, reopened to all their children last Monday and are now planning a special birthday event to tie in with Comic Relief.

Since the initial period of lockdown last March every child and member of staff has a had birthday that they have not been able to properly celebrate, so this Friday will be a day to celebrate all these birthdays across the Trust. Everyone can come to school dressed in what they would wear to their ideal party fancy clothes, sleepover clothes or costumes. During the day the children will enjoy fun activities, games and year-group discos.

The Academies will share their celebrations when each year group joins with their corresponding classes at the other Great Height’s schools by video-link for a virtual party game and to talk about the return to school.

Helen Crowther, Principal of The Greetland Academy said: “This will be a great opportunity to celebrate our full return to school and really look forward to more normal times ahead.”

Amanda Bennett OBE, CEO of Great Heights Trust, said: “It’s a really important part of our educational recovery that all of our children reconnect with each other and with their schools, each knowing that they are all an important part of our Trust.’

Ken Inwood, Chair of the local governing body at Bowling Green Academy, said: “Working together like this, schools supporting each other to enhance children’s confidence and optimism for the future will make a real difference to the collective wellbeing of our pupils.”
