Brods’ crowdfunding launch gets great support from club and community

-

LAST WEEKEND marked exactly one year since last season was cut short for the Old Brodleians and there has been no action since.

As club media manager and former hooker James Ogden points out: ”Little did we know that we were finishing on such a high, sitting at the top of Yorkshire One (to be later crowned champions) and, in our last fixture on March 14, beating Widnes to progress to the last four of the National Cup.

He adds: “This season would have been the club’s 90th anniversary but instead, like so many others, we’ve been closed throughout.

“As a result, we have launched a five-week Crowdfunder initiative to help the Brods to get us back on track to fulfil the ambitions for the development of our new training area.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has created an uncertain landscape for grassroots sports clubs everywhere, which is going to make it very challenging for them to survive, and like many other clubs, Old Brodleians is facing financial pressures with the ongoing situation.”

He added: “Our 90th anniversary plans for a year-long fundraising campaign and string of events to accompany the celebrations have obviously changed drastically.

“So far, since the Crowdfunder page went live, the response has been truly outstanding and we’d like to thank everyone that’s supported Project90 already.

“The donations and gifted items have already helped the club push through 50 per-cent of our target. It’s also wonderful to see so many of our teams running their own fundraising raffles and draws.”

Ogden added: “We have to give a special mention to our U16s who, individually, are challenging themselves to run 90 miles for Project90 in just 30 days. Our ladies team are also hoping to do a combined total of 3,244 miles by walking, running or cycling the distance between all of the Six Nations stadiums and our very own Woodhead Park, all in five weeks. It is inspiring stuff and well done to everyone.”
