Mill to undergo redevelopment

- Ian Hirst

ONE OF Calderdale’s most historic and well-known landmarks, is set to undergo a radical refurbishment to provide a mixed range of business, office, retail and leisure units.

The current tenant at Victoria Mills, Andy Thornton Ltd, is relocating its showroom to Elland and planning permission for the redevelopment has recently been obtained by the owners, Rosemount Estates.

Andy Thornton, of Rosemount Estates, said “This is the second phase of the redevelopment, the first being the successful conversion of the ground floor into retail and leisure units five years ago.

“That proved to be the catalyst for rejuvenation of this thriving village and we expect this redevelopment to boost the area further.”

Work on the mill is set to start with the first space due to be available from Autumn 2021 onwards.

The scheme will offer a wide range of commercial units from 800 to 22,000 sq ft and will include additional car parking and innovative heating, lighting and connectivity to provide practical, contemporary and environmentally friendly space whilst retaining the industrial character of the building.

Ryan Barker of Walker Singleton, the letting agents for the scheme, said: “The refurbishment will provide stunning space in the heart of Greetland and as the impact of the pandemic recedes we expect significant demand from a variety of different businesses.

“While it has been very successfully used for retail and showroom space for many years, we also expect interest from office users and leisure operators.”
