Funds boost for arts and culture

THEATRE GROUPS and bands in the district are set to receive a share of £400m to help cultural and arts organisati­ons survive the Covid pandemic.

Several local organisati­ons will be handed a welcome financial shot in the arm, including the Northern Broadsides Theatre Company, which will be given £130,334; Black Dyke Band, Queensbury, £38,040; Bluemoose Books, Hebden Bridge, £25,000; Brighouse & Rastrick Band, which will receive £68,600; The Rex Cinema in Elland, £34,066; Dean Clough’s IOU Ltd, £56,000 and The Artworks, at Shaw Lodge Mills,Halifax, £26,000.

More than 2,700 cultural and creative organisati­ons are to receive a share of £400 million as part of a vital financial boost from the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund – which has been awarded through Arts Council England, Historic England, National Lottery Heritage Fund and the British Film Institute.

Artworks Director, Lauren Iredale, said: “Art and culture are a powerful tool for transforma­tion and have a critical role to play in our collective recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re delighted that, with help from the Cultural Recovery Fund, we can play our part in this recovery by supporting those most in need in our communitie­s.

“We look forward to reopening our doors again when the time is right and doing all that we can to support people to reengage with culture and reap the health and wellbeing benefits that come from connecting with art and creativity.”
