- Mark Berry

THE NEW bowling season is about to begin, with Covid rules and regulations in place to ensure everyone stays safe.

Mark Holden has been announced as the new competition secretary for the Halifax Association, Halifax League and Sowerby League.

Mark said: “I was approached by the league secretary Peter Martin who must have got me on a good day and talked me into these positions!

“Myself and Peter have got things moving and ready to go this year. We have spent many hours together, in person and on the phone, even Zoom chats, to get what we can done for the 2021 season.

“All competitions are in place, with some coming up in April, and Peter is working hard putting leagues in place, starting in May.

“Our first event is the long awaited Champion of Champions from the 2019 season on Sunday at Elland CABC at 10.30am.

“We have a great field including one of England’s finest in Graham Wilson. However, due to Covid rules, we are not allowed spectators.

“New sponsors include The Water Wizard and Total Active, on top of all the other fantastic sponsors we have.

“We have the mixed pairs on April 18, Percy Carter on April 20, Wilkinson Sword on April 21, Men’s Pairs on April 25 and many more before the leagues kick in on May 17.

“The leagues are going to be serious but fun this year, there is no promotion and demotion ,and when the 2022 season hopefully comes back as normal next year, the 2019 season will be used for who got promoted and demoted.

“We have had an awesome response to competitions, possibly more than we could have normally had, and they are still coming in. The Rose Bowl team event will still take place, and the new format of the team pairs competition for the Brian Varley trophy is in place.

“Please get your team registrations in to Peter as soon as possible, so he can design the league format.”
