Hospital to benefit from art auction
AN ARTIST from Halifax is auctioning off some of his paintings to help raise money for Calderdale Royal Hospital.
John Jenkins is originally from Coventry but moved to Halifax around 10 years ago.
“I’m putting 10 towards the NSPCC, 10 towards Calderdale Royal and 10 towards Stand Up To Cancer,” he said.
“Jumblebee (an online auction site) are going to hold the auction for me and then I’ll split the funds between those three and myself.
“I’d like it to be a massive event.
“I’d also like to do a draw-off between the kids on the ward in the hospital, to make it into a bigger event.”
John’s three-year-old daughter Caitlyn Ella Rose died 11 years ago of cancer.
“She’s what’s pushing me. It was the anniversary the other week and something was telling me to do this, so it’s got to have been my little girl telling me somehow,” he said.
“I’ve drawn since the age of 12 but it’s only since the start of the pandemic I’ve thought ‘hold on, I’m actually going to try and do something with this’.
“It’s going alright, it’s slow but I’m producing some amazing pictures.
“There’s Spiderman, all the Marvel characters, cartoons, lions, Beanos, Dandy’s, there’s loads.
“Since coronavirus started I’ve concentrated on doing loads of pictures, I’ve done a fair few that have got coronavirus involved in them.
“I then contacted the hospital to see if I could donate them, and somebody threw the idea at me of having an auction.
“I’ve found it really hard this past year so this is me trying to make a positive out if it.”
