A special way to pay tribute to lost loved ones with Overgate

- Tom Scargill

AFTER A very difficult year, Overgate Hospice is inviting the community to support their latest appeal, Rainbow of Ribbons, and help to pay a special tribute to loved ones.

The Rainbow of Ribbons campaign invites people to make a dedication in memory of a loved one in the form of a coloured ribbon which is usually brought along to the their open garden event and attached somewhere meaningful in the gardens at Overgate Hospice.

This year as restrictions are still in place, ribbons have been sent out for those who have made a dedication so that they can be displayed in homes, gardens

We hope to send out hundreds of colourful ribbons dedicated to very special people

or the person’s own meaningful place in the community.

Senior Fundraiser Claire Howard, who organises the event, said: “It’s so wonderful to see our community once again support us in a very meaningful way.

“We hope to send out hundreds of colourful ribbons which are dedicated to very special people, those who are loved and missed every day.

“Our event offers a special opportunity for people to come together and return to the garden that means so much when remembering their loved ones.

“We are truly disappointed to not be able to offer this opportunity once again this year but in its’ place we hope households will host their own day of remembrance in their garden or special outdoor space on Sunday, June 6.

“Overgate are also asking families to share pictures of their special ribbons, who they are dedicated to and where they have chosen to attach them using #overgaterainbow on social media.”

Dedications made will be added to the Virtual Garden which can be found on Overgate’s website www.overgatehospice.org.uk.

The Rainbow of Ribbons campaign has helped to raise over £14,000 for the Hospice last year which means so much as Overgate still faces uncertainty in the near future. The Calderdale community have continued to show their unwavering support for their Hospice – making dedications to appeals, financial donations, fundraisers and challenges set by individuals and many other kind donations.

Dedications to the Rainbow of Ribbons appeal can be made by visiting www.overgatehospice.org.uk or calling 01422 387121.
