Big screen movies set to be shown as UK cinemas reopen

-

Somanyofus enjoy watching a good movie with many missing the experience of buying popcorn, snacks and drinks and losing ourselves for a couple of hours in front of a big cinema screen with hi fidelity sound.

But since the lockdown came into place in March 2020 many of us have had to do with watching our favourite flicks and silver screen fix on the small screen, whether that be a DVD or streaming service.

But fear not as there are plans to allow us to enjoy the big screen experience once again soon.

Cineworld has confirmed its plan to reopen 127 UK cinemas in May as the government begins to ease its stringent lockdown restrictions.

The Cineworld firm also said it would open cinemas in the US under its Regal brand from April 2 following six months of closure.

“We will also be monitoring developments closely in the UK and across Europe” it stated.

The company closed 127 Cineworld and Picturehouse cinemas in the UK – and 536 Regal sites in the US – in October.

However, it now plans to reopen in line with government guidelines.

The United States will be the first to benefit from the phased reopening but Europe will also be in line for its Cineworld outlets to reopen its doors to an eager and hungry public.

Just to whet the appetite here are some of the movies that have been delayed due to the pandemic.

They include The Batman; The Beatles: Get Back; Black Widow; Candyman; Cinderella; Cruella; Death on the Nile; Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Dungeons & Dragons.

Others with delayed release include Dune; The Flash; Ghostbusters: Afterlife; Godzilla vs Kong; Irresistible; Jurassic World: Dominion; King Richard; The Matrix 4; Mission: Impossible 7; Mission: Impossible 8 and No Time to Die – James Bond.

The phased reopening in the US started with a limited number of cinemas opening for Godzilla vs Kong on April 2, followed by screenings of Mortal Kombat from April 16.

Alongside this, a deal has been struck with Warner Bros that gives the cinema chain exclusive rights to show films over streaming services.

This will mean that Cineworld will be able to show Warner Bros’ films exclusively in its cinemas 31 days prior to them being made available on premium video on demand platforms for streaming at home.

Cineworld chief executive Mooky Greidinger, said: “We have long-awaited this moment when we can welcome audiences back to our Regal theatres and restore our essential role within the communities we serve.

“With capacity restrictions expanding to 50 per cent or more across most US states, we will be able to operate profitably in our biggest markets.

“We’ll also monitor developments closely in the UK and across Europe as we set to gradually reopen across the world in line with local government guidance.”
