“We can’t get carried away with ourselves” says Shaymen manager Wild

When asked how he rates his side’s chances of finishing in the top seven, Wild said: “There’s eight games to go, a lot of football to be played against some tough, tough teams.

“Let’s just keep playing, that’s 56 points on the board. What did we get before the shut down last year, 58?

“I want 59 before I start talking about anything else.”

Saturday’s game is Town’s fifth in 15 days, with Woking visiting The Shay on Tuesday.

“That’s why we’ve got nearly 23 lads available now, so that’s my problem,” said Wild about any possible fatigue in his squad.

“I’ve got to pick the right team on the right day and make sure the team I pick’s got legs, got energy and got a fight and bite.

“We’ve got to turn up and we’ve got to be at our best.

“If we get carried away, then we get a Wrexham.

“I think that Wrexham game was a big wake-up call for us all, and a big message that we can’t get carried away with ourselves.”

Wild says he wants a repeat performance from his team after their win at Chesterfield, but with “a bit more quality on the ball and keeping hold of it a bit better”.

The Town boss says confidence is high in the squad after back-to-back wins.

“It is but we’ve got an experienced group of lads and as much as we’re confident, we’re grounded, because there’s a long way to go yet,” he said.

“We’ve just got to keep ticking the games off.

“If you take your eye off the ball, you get beat.

“In eight games, there’s a lot of opportunities for things to go wrong, so let’s just keep knocking the games off, Bromley on Saturday, and then see where we are at quarter to five on Saturday.”

“That’s what I said to the players at the start of the week, I said this week could define our season and let’s see where we are at quarter to five on Saturday.”

Loanee Tahvon Campbell is close to being back in contention after a calf injury.

“Tav’s got to train a full week before he’s up for selection, so we’re nearly there with that and then he’ll come into our thoughts after that,” Wild said.

Pete Wild: “There’s a lot of opportunities for things to go wrong so let’s keep knocking the games off.”
