Shaymen fight back from two goals down to defeat King’s Lynn

-

TOWN MANAGER Pete Wild said he saw the real Halifax in the second-half as The Shaymen fought back from 2-0 to beat King’s Lynn 4-2.

Halifax fell two-goals down through Michael Gash and Sonny Carey, but were level at halftime thanks to Billy Chadwick and Jake Hyde. Town then won it after the interval with goals from Luke Summerfield and Jack Earing.

“We didn’t start well again did we, we got pumped on Tuesday but we got away with it,” Wild said. “All the analysis we’d done around starting well, pressing them, getting after them, we gave them far too much space, we didn’t deal with their diamond well early on. When we went 2-0 down we tried to change it tactically a little bit, drop off them a little bit to pick up their players who weren’t defending. We had to counteract that, and that allowed us to go and progress.”

When asked why Town started so poorly, Wild said: “Maybe nerves, maybe whether they thought they were going to dominate the game and they wouldn’t need to start well, I don’t know, but I think the main reason they’ve scored the two goals is we haven’t dealt with their diamond well enough. But we got better at that after the second goal and it allowed us a platform to build on.”

Tyler Denton was given too much space to cross down the left, and Gash converted smartly at the far post.

Then after Simeoon Jackson’s shot was blocked, the rebound was turned in by Sonny Carey from close range.

Town finally converted one of their attacks though when a cross from Neill Byrne was swept in by Chadwick.

Hyde dragged Halifax level when he brought down Luke Summerfield’s free-kick and found the net with a terrific shot across goal.

The turnaround was completed when Hyde latched onto a lofted pass and did brilliantly to hold it up and lay it off for Summerfield, who struck a delightful shot from 20 yards.

King’s Lynn’s two-goal lead became a distant memory when Earing was presented with a simple finish after a sloppy pass by Ethan Coleman.
