Joy as hospice’s charity shops throw open their doors again

- Tom Scargill

OVERGATE HOSPICE were thrilled to reopen all 13 of their charity shops earlier this month, after being closed for the majority of the past 12 months.

The Elland-based hospice relies heavily on the income of their shops across Calderdale, which collectively bring in over £1m each year to support the work of the charity.

For the safety of supporters, staff and volunteers each shop has been closed for the majority of the past year, however as restrictions eased on Monday, April 12, the retail team were thrilled to welcome supporters back across all 13 locations.

“After being closed for so long it has been fantastic to welcome our customers back”

Fiona Fearnley, manager of Overgate’s Todmorden shop, said: “After being closed for so long it has been fantastic to welcome our customers back and to see all of our wonderful volunteers again. We’re lucky to have been really busy in the days since we reopened and it really does feel great to be back where we belong.”

Tracey Broadbent, Head of Retail at Overgate, said: “As a team we are overjoyed to be able to reopen our doors to the people of Calderdale. Our shops are important to the Hospice not only because of the financial support they provide but also because of the relationships
