Dad caught drug dealing on street

- Court Reporter

A MARRIED father-of-two has been jailed for a series of offences including drug dealing on the streets of Halifax.

Sakeb Nazir, 36, was arrested by police after they stopped an uninsured Skoda Octavia in Boothtown last October and when he was searched officers found two “rocks” of crack cocaine.

Prosecutor Clare Walsh told Bradford Crown Court that en route to the police station Nazir told an officer:”I’ll give you £1,000.” She said Nazir then raised two and three fingers effectively upping the amount of money being offered.

During a further search officers recovered more cocaine and heroin packages including some which were in Nazir’s boxer shorts.

Mrs Walsh said Nazir, of Gibraltar Avenue, Halifax, had more than 80 wraps of cocaine worth just over £1000 as well as £350 worth of heroin.

Nazir admitted charges of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply and the court heard that back in 2011 he had been jailed for two years for being concerned in drugs supply.

Recorder Michael Fanning jailed Nazir for three years and four months for drug dealing and also activated part of a suspended prison sentence imposed on the defendant in February 2020.

The judge added an extra eight months from suspended sentence with a further four months imposed for an offence of perverting the course of justice when Nazir gave someone else name after he was caught driving an untaxed BMW X3.

In total Nazir was jailed for four years and four months after admitting drugs offences, perverting the course of justice and other motoring offences including driving while over the limit from drugs. Nazir was also banned from driving for a total of five years and two months.

Officers recovered cocaine and heroin packages including some which were in Nazir’s boxer shorts.
