the effect of this by spending a third of my income on my grandchildren.

Conservative Chancellors have failed to balance the books this century and last year our Chancellor dumped £4000 of debt for every man, woman and child in the country on future generations.

Our Government is incapable of thinking long-term and restructuring the economy to be ecologically sustainable by creating millions of Green jobs.

In persuing growth Calderdale MBC’s Plan could be labelled the Flood Enhancement Programme.

By building more roads and more business premises plus houses for immigrants in the Green Belt the consequences are obvious. There will be more carbon emissions, more global heating, heavier rainfall, faster run-off and more flooding. Green thinking is to recognise the interconnections of all aspects of life and build a people-centred economy which keeps inside ecological limits.

MAY I refer to the article in the Halifax Courier on March 25 in the ‘IN BRIEF’ section?

What a few words tell you about how ineffective the Labour controlled Calderdale Council is. The council had to ‘HOPE’ for funding which hints that it was not certain that the road would very open.

The article confirms that the West Yorkshire Combined Authority was administering the funding from Getting Building fund.

This Leeds based organisation obviously was not made aware the effect the road closure is having on the economy of Elland and Brighouse and Calderdale in general.

An online search of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority website I could find no reference to this project.

An online search of the

Getting Building website the following was listed as a project and stated:

‘Reconstruction of the

A6025 Park Road, which was closed due to a landslip caused by flooding. The route provides a direct link between Calderdale’s primary employment and housing areas in Halifax, Elland and Brighouse and will advance delivery of sustainable travel measures being developed to access the proposed Elland Rail Station’.

The Deputy Chairman of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority is Tim Swift Labour Leader of Calderdale Council. Perhaps he should be called Tim Slow.

It is now confirmed that the Leeds based firm Esh Construction will start the work soon.

It is a pity that Park Road could have been designated as being in Leeds and we could all be driving on it now.

I hope young people realise they have been stitched up and use their vote wisely at forthcoming elections B CROSSLAND
