‘We managed to find a way to beat them’ says Wild
TOWN MANAGER Pete Wild said his side’s 1-0 win over Woking shows they can grind out results when it matters.
Jake Hyde’s second-half goal was enough to secure a crucial three points for Town in the race for the play-offs.
“We were always in control of the football,” said Wild. “We tried our best to give them a goal. The pitch was a leveller. We knew one of their big threats would be off set-pieces and it certainly was, it was a great save by Sam and luckily the lad’s offside. We dominated the ball all evening, we had three excellent chances to go 1-0 up in the firsthalf and didn’t take them.
“Then we had three or four good opportunities secondhalf. We managed to find a way to beat them. They dropped into that low block and sometimes you’ve got to go over the low block to score, and we have.
“It’s an unbelievable pass by Luke, and a great finish by Jake. This time of year, all you’ve got to do is find a way to win.”
The Cards nearly took the lead when a free-kick was headed goalwards and brilliantly saved by Sam Johnson, but the tap-in on the rebound was ruled out for offside.
Halifax were utterly dominant, with Hyde going close three times in the first-half before there was a massive let-off for Neill Byrne shortly before half-time when his short back pass let in the visitors, but Town somehow kept the ball out, with Senior the saviour with a last ditch tackle.
Zac Robinson curled a shot just wide for Woking before a magnificent pass by Luke Summerfield picked out Hyde, who finished smartly from close range.
