Auction house to open doors

- Abigail Kellett

A NEW auction house in the centre of Halifax is hoping to use the success of TV antique shows to spark an interest with people in the town.

Halifax Mill Auctioneers, located off King Cross near Halifax Playhouse, is set to be a new buying and selling hub for the town. The business has been launched by its lead auctioneer, James Watson, and is open to the public from Monday, May 17, with their first auction sale in the diary for that week on the afternoon of Sunday, May 23.

James said: “We’re hopeful from the success of the BBC’s The Bidding Room and the countless antiques programmes on the television, that having an auction house on the town’s doorstep will really spark an interest with the people of Halifax.

“I’ve seen my fair share of hidden gems in people’s homes as well as countless ‘sleepers’ and surprises in auction catalogues so its always been an exciting experience for me, and for the buyers and sellers I’ve worked with across the last ten years.

“We’re lucky to have a very friendly and professional team and are welcoming advance enquiries as we speak, we can safely visit your home for appraisals and/or collections, and are offering one of the most cost-effective auction selling options in the region, by only charging a 10%+VAT commission cut, against a vendor’s proceeds.

“You never know what treasures or heirlooms might be just around the corner from sale to sale, and to be fair its solely our customers that create those moments, so we’re looking forward to hearing from you!”

Halifax Mill Auctioneers partners with Easylive to run the online part of their thriceweekly Sunday sales and May 23 catalogue is viewable right now by visiting www.easyliveauction. com.
