is biased towards Halifax in my view.
The Piece Hall has cost £20m, Halifax has had two new libraries whilst Elland retained its old one. The £150m on the A629 has done nothing for Elland. The continuous extraction of money from Elland has contributed to its decline. Consequently, Elland has lost its banks and several useful shops.
At present Elland residents suffer more pollution because Calderdale MBC cannot repair the main road between Halifax and Brighouse, but pollution is never measured in Elland.
Finally, Calderdale MBC proposes to wreck the green belt in Elland to provide a dormitory for people to spend their money in anywhere but Elland. When Calderdale MBC declares a climate emergency its actions should be to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Providing facilities, such as a swimming pool, will reduce our need to travel and reduce carbon emissions. (August 26) that the council leader (Coun Tim Swift) is claiming that ‘the council’ is pledged to help refugees fleeing Afghanistan. And below that, the Halifax MP added her two pence worth on a similar theme.
However isn’t the main point being missed here? The ‘crisis’ in Afghanistan is purely down to one man and his ‘team’. I am talking about the ‘man in the White House’ AKA as President Biden. I mean he announced to the world, putting ear to ear grins on the faces of the Taliban, that the USA was pulling out of Afghanistan. Rather like telling your sports opponents your game tactics prior to kick off. I wonder how much better Adolf Hitler would have felt being told in advance of the Normandy landings and the D-Day date.
Of course don’t expect any criticism from the left in politics because Mr President is a liberal, but had it been Donald Trump or, heaven forbid, Ronald Reagan, youcanbetwe’dhavehada special council meeting to send a message of condemnation to the White House.
The hypocrisy of ‘the left’ leaves me astounded at times. I feel this Biden guy has lost the plot completely, and I would question the quality of his ‘advisors’.
Call me a cynic if you wish but when will (or maybe that should be if ) the left stop trying to treat the symptoms and try and address the causes?
People in Elland would be quite happy to have a similar leisure centre to Brighouse or Sowerby Bridge B CROSSLAND
