Stainland Lions battle the heat in road races

STAINLAND LIONS runners were in action in various road races over the last week.

Fraser Ambrose finished 15th in the Littleboro­ugh Lions 5k with a time of 19:43.

And several Lions were among the hundreds who ran the Leeds 10k and Half Marathon. Cameron Rushworth clocked a fine time of 41:34 in the 10k and Christophe­r Bowen finished in 55:18.

Half marathon times: Mark Pottinger 1:33:22, Richard Heaton 1:42:58, Danny Stafford 1:48:20, Gareth Knight 1:48:53, Joanne Kitcher 1:59:35, Gillian Jago 2:00:37.

Lions were out in force at the Wetherby 10k because the race was also a counter in the club championsh­ip competitio­n.

Fraser led the Lions home and there were strong performanc­es from Lorraine Naylor who finished second in her age category, and Hayley Kelly who finished third in hers.

Darren Reece finished eighth overall in the London Summer Run 10k and Melissa Vincent clocked 58:41.

■ Bowls: The autumn indoor bowling season starts today, Thursday, at Halifax Bowling Club with the Thursday Evening Triples. All leagues resume the following week.

There will be coaching on Mondays (11am to 12pm) and Tuesdays (2pm to 3pm) by Graham Summers. All are welcome. Halifax Bowling Club’s 2021 winter league starts on Thursday, September 16.
