Midnight walk stars are set to shine for hospice

- Tom Scargill

OVERGATE HOSPICE’S biggest fundraising event of the year, the Midnight Walk, returns this Saturday.

The event, which had previously taken place every year since 2008, could not go ahead last year due to the pandemic, resulting in an estimated loss of £55,000 for Calderdale’s only adult hospice.

Over 600 people are already registered to take on the seven or 13 mile route, both of which start and finish at North Bridge Leisure Centre in Halifax.

The walk, sponsored by Rosemount Estates, is a great way for supporters of Overgate to come together and achieve something special whilst raising much needed funds for the hospice.

Many participants will walk in memory of a loved one while others will take part for fun or as a challenge with friends and family.

Each walker receives a t-shirt to wear on the night and once they cross the finish line, they will receive well-earned refreshments - including a bacon butty! - along with their goody bag and medal.

Faye Henderson, Head of Fundraising at the hospice, said: “As one of our biggest and longest running events we were so saddened to have to cancel our Midnight Walk last year, but we’re excited and ready to welcome our wonderful supporters this Saturday for what we know will be a night to remember.

“Please do come along if you

can and support your local hospice.”

Registration is £15 per person or £22 on the night.

The entry fee covers the cost of hosting the event, which means that every penny raised in sponsorship goes to support patient care.

Pre-registration closes at

noon tomorrow, however participants are also welcome to register on the night.
