Wild praises team spirit after Town fight back to stun County

-

Town boss Pete Wild praised the “best team spirit he’s ever had” after his side fought back to beat Notts County 3-2 on Tuesday, writes Dom Lund.

Halifax had found themselves 2-0 down and a man down after Tom Bradbury’s dismissal, but late goals from Jordan Slew, Billy Waters and a 100th minute winner from Matty Warburton saw the Shaymen pick up all three points in a five-goal thriller. Wild said: “The team spirit in that dressing room is phenomenal, it’s the best I’ve ever had.

“They’re never beaten, they have a never-say-die attitude and I think that’s fantastic.

“I think the fans can see that the lads are giving everything they’ve got for the team. I’m really pleased we finished as strongly and athletically as we did, and that will serve us well across the season.”

Wild admits the County goals were preventable but insists his side didn’t let it affect them, an example of the great team spirit within the group.

He said: “It’s a mistake for the first goal but Sam has got us out of so many situations this year so he sticks his hand up and says ‘sorry lads’ and we move on, we all make mistakes. Then, the second goal is a set piece which we need to do better on.”

He added: “I thought we controlled the game with and without the ball really well.

“To be 2-0 down, you’re thinking it’s a little bit unfair because we’ve controlled large parts of the game.

“Notts County are an excellent side, and we had a plan in place to stop them, and I thought we did that well.”

Reflecting on Bradbury’s sending off, Wild said: “It’s a horrendous challenge on Tom to start off with that goes unpunished.

“Tom shouldn’t have done what he did, but a professional footballer trying to get someone sent off is really poor and that’s what their player has done.”
