Firsts fight back from two goals down to earn draw with Sheffield Bankers

-

HALIFAX MEN’S first team fought back from a 3-1 deficit to earn a well-deserved 3-3 draw with Sheffield Bankers.

Goals came from Connor Sutcliffe’s penalty, his brother Josh with an excellent drag flick and Josh Barron’s fine finish and Halifax could have won the game in the last 10 minutes but Bankers somehow kept the ball out.

The men’s second team came up against a very good Accomb team and were always second best in a 6-0 defeat.

The thirds were left to rue missed chances as they conceded late goal in a 3-2 loss at Leeds Leondis. Goals were scored by youngsters Jacob Maclean and Luke Pearson who, with Jamie Hereford, played some great hockey.

Halifax fourths won 5-3 at Wakefield following a display of excellent possession, good movement off the ball and clinical finishing.

Steve Sparkes scored trice as did Jeremy Mackrill with Lee Chapman bagging the fifth. Fourteen-year-olds Amos Mackrill and Euan Hancock shone in midfield and 15-yearold Jacob Mackrill also had a good game. Hancock scooped the man of the match award.

The U10s team celebrated excellent results when they visited Slazengers for their first North East tournament.

Halifax ran out 3-0 winners against Rotherham with Elliot Rudkin scoring the first and Rotherham deflecting in the other two after good crosses from Rudkin.

Two goals from Rudkin secured victory in the second game and the clash with Chesterfield ended in a goalless draw, despite good work from Orla Bentley Elliot, Toby EganBrook,

Jonathan Tillotson and Cole Hackney.

Halifax played their best hockey in their final game against hosts Slazengers. Rudkin set up Alex Bottomley to score twice and Rudkin then netted two before player of the tournament Jack Greenwood got onto the scoresheet. Slazengers grabbed a late goal to spoil Halifax’s run of clean sheets.

The excellent results mean Halifax won the league and will now go into one of the top two divisions for their next games in November.
