Crocs extend perfect start and Rishies get off to flyer

- Sta ff Reporter

YORKSHIRE ONE leaders Old Crossleyans made it six wins form six league games with a 13try romp past visitors Goole.

The Crocs fielded three debutants in their squad, Nick Rawsthorne, Adam Horner and Matthew Holden, and it was the hosts who dominated from the start.

Joe Gallagher opened the scoring with a penalty and Billy Hammond then claimed the first converted try of the game.

Goole responded with an unconverted score but the rest of the half belonged to Crocs with Rawsthorne, Hammond and Horner all crossing the whitewash to give their side a 31-5 half-time lead.

Chris Vine broke 70 metres before putting supporting fullback Josh Hunt over for a try improved by Gallagher.

Rob Oliver crashed over, man of the match Rawsthorne bagged his second, Vine scored a deserved try and Matthew Beswick raced clear from halfway to put the Crocs out of sight at 64-5.

Prop Holden marked his debut with a powerful run to the line, Joe Gallagher keeping up his kicking form to make it 71-5 with the extras.

Goole kept battling to the end and were rewarded with tries from centre Thomas Betteridge, Craig Huttom and Matthew Lill as the game ended 71-22.

Crocs are hoping for more of the same when they travel to Dinnington on Saturday.

■ Fifth-placed Old Rishworthian also produced the goods as they dispatched visitors Dinnington 46-33.

The first half proved to be a try fest in which Rishies scored seven of the nine tries, five of them in the first 15 minutes.

Anthony Shoesmith touched down to break the deadlock, Josh Kelly converting, before Oliver Marshall went over in the corner.

Dinnington hit back with a converted try but Shoesmith then beat several defenders to score a fine try, converted by Kelly.

An interception try from Dinnington skipper Robert Lievars made it 19-14 after only 15 minutes but then Rishies took control and raced into a 43-14 halftime lead courtesy of scores from Lee Atkinson (2), Marshall and Doug Heseltine.

The hosts were unable to maintain the momentum after the break and Dinnington added two more tries to their tally before Rishies responded with a penalty from Kelly.

A forward drive from a scrum brought another converted try for the visitors but it was Rishworthians’ day.

Rishies will be in a confident mood when they travel to second-bottom side Leodiensians on Saturday.

The development team won 21-12 at Heath with tries for Simanu Tusiga, Andrew Esmond and Arron Nowell, with three conversions by Jacob Bower.
