Sensational Brods storm past Scarborough and move up to second in table

-

OLD BRODLEIANS played some of their best rugby of the North One East season as they swept to a 54-10 victory over Scarborough at Woodhead last Saturday.

Brods took an early grip on the game when Cameron Wroot ran onto a well-timed pass from Christian Georgiou to cross and Phil Town added the simple conversion to set the tone for the afternoon’s performance.

The home pack set a solid platform for their half-backs with some strong scrummaging and the Brods backs enjoyed more than their fair share of possession as they set about their business.

Midway through the first half, Brods opted to kick to the corner from a penalty and following a strong drive, Benny Pritchett dived over from short range to score. Town converted from the touchline to extend the lead to 14-0.

An opportunist try by Christian Georgiou, improved by Town, extended the lead before Scarborough enjoyed a good period of possession, from which they opened their account with a penalty on the stroke of halftime.

The visitors reduced the deficit further with a try on the resumption but normal service resumed when Ben Hoyle put Elliot Craven through a gap and the young hooker finished in fine style. Town again converted to make it 28-10.

Rob Jennings scored the bonus point try and Christian Georgiou then bagged his second of the game, both converted by Town.

Jennings went over again and although Town missed the goal he made amends by converting he final try of the game. Following strong running from Alex

Dawson, Jimmy Hodkinson provided the link to young Peter Ashton and the burly prop sprinted clear to score his first try for the first team.

Brods, now second in the table, travel to Moortown on Saturday in confident mood but aware they face a stern test against the team sitting in sixth place.
