Music, movies, markets and more as Piece Hall announces festive line-up
Festive fun will be in full swing at The Piece Hall this Christmas. The historic venue has announced the first of more than 40 events to take place over the festive season.
There is something for everyone, from popular Ibiza legend Ellie Sax and an Abba tribute band to screenings of Christmas movies and visits from Father Christmas.
The venue’s 66,000 sq ft courtyard will be transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with a spectacular 30ft Christmas tree and traditional carousel.
The giant circus-style Spiegeltent will return to host a variety of performances including Ellie Sax, who is back at The Piece Hall on after two sell-out summer shows.
And, following New Order’s highly-acclaimed live gig in September, drummer Stephen Morris and DJ Dave Haslam will be talking life, music, inspiration and bestselling books, before playing some of their favourite tunes.
Kicking off the events will be two winter makers markets, bringing in some of the region’s favourite independent craft stalls, artisan makers and pop-up food and drink stalls for two weekends of traditional winter fun.
Children will be able to enjoy a magical journey of storytelling and imagination in a specially-created Christmas experience which leads them through an enchanting interactive tour of The Piece Hall, culminating with an opportunity to meet Father Christmas himself.
And there will be music from award-winning Abba tribute band Abba Revival, international jive and swing band King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys, Sheffield ukulele parody band Everly Pregnant Brothers, 1940s and 1950s dance music artists Jump, Jive and Wail and Yorkshire favourites Elland Silver Band.
More acts and events are still to be announced.
Nicky Chance-Thompson, chief executive at The Piece
Hall Trust, said: “Christmas is back at The Piece Hall and we can’t wait.
“It’s such a special time and more so than ever this year. It’s a time to share with family and friends and remember those who are no longer with us.
“We want to get back to the true spirit of Christmas, so we’re celebrating kindness, caring, generosity and gratitude but we’ll also be in the party mood and up for some good old-fashioned fun.
“We want to make sure this festive season is really special for everyone.”
