Surprising results in Halifax pairs league games
THERE WERE two upsets in the Monday Evening Pairs Autumn league at Halifax Bowling Club.
Valley Boys (Keith Hanson, Nick Blackburn) were up against league leaders 4 Ball Better Ball (Keith Hatzer and Scott Smith) and Boys ran out 11-9 winners.
Leathered (Sandra Cooper, Danny Leather) gave a most impressive performance as they beat Blue Woods (John Sharp, Ian Ryding) by 15-13.
46ers (Derek Finch, Stewart Wright) had their best result of the season in Division One of the Tuesday Pairs in beating champions Little & Large (David Laycock, John Beverley) 8-6.
Division Two high flyers Spartans (Brian and David Holder) registered an emphatic 26-2 win against Hightown Old Boys (Ian Briggs, John Lunt).
Jammy Duo (Danny Leather, Neil Mort) are the outstanding pair in the division and they beat Pat & Pete (Pat and Pete Grant) 11-6.
The two most competitive leagues are Division One of the Wednesday Fours and the Thursday Evening Triples.
In the Wednesday Fours, on eight points are Black Cats, Knockkelly Stars and Illingworth, followed by last year’s champions, Northern Lights and Hard Liners.
Beta Blockers and Guys & Dolls are battling against relegation.
Illingworth (Marion Quick, Steve Webster, Stewart Baker, David Laycock) inflicted a third defeat on Northern Lights (Les Holmes, Derek Smith, Ian Crossland, Mick Walker) by 8-4.
Knockkelly Stars (K Burnett, G Pickles, Garry Bailey, Derek Squires) found Black Cats (Gordon Bradford, Brian Winrow, John Sharp, Paul Gill) in a determined mood as the Cats ran out 13-8 winners.
Little & Large (Ian Smith, David Laycock, Steve Rothwell) lead the Thursday Evening Triples from Madlams (Gordon Bradford, Derek Smith, Mick Walker). Madlams beat Light Relief (R Sugden, J Donavan, S Martin) 17-11 and Little & Large defeated SID (John Sharp, Steve Swallow, Ian Ryding) 19-11.
