Manchester United and Scotland’s Kirsty Hanson October was testing in both league and international games

-

I HAD a niggle in my calf ahead of the trip to Birmingham, ou first game of October, so I didn’t know if I’d be fit but I came on at half time and tried to make as much of an impact as I could.

We ended up winning 2-0 but Birmingham gave us a good game so it was definitely an important three points.

The week after we had our Manchester derby at home in front of a lot of fans so it was a great atmosphere.

Although we didn’t play our best football and conceded a silly goal to finish the game 2-2, it was a good point that we deserved, as frustrating as it was. I was actually struck down with the bad cold that is going around so I did the best I could in the 60 minutes I was on the pitch.

I did more work probably off the ball than on the ball in this game but sometimes that’s what you’ve got to be willing to do for your team which is always what Ido.

On to the following Thursday, we had our continental cup game away at Durham.

It is always a fight against them. They’re extremely physical.

We had players that don’t get as many minutes, so it was great to see them play and do really well. We conceded from two annoying set pieces with the game finishing 2-2 but we eventually won on penalties.

The past few games we’re definitely learning a lot about each other as a team and what we need to be better at.

I then had international duty with Scotland for 10 days.

The camp was based in Scotland, which is always good, having not to travel abroad anywhere. It was an intense week but with our new manager, Pedro [Martinez Losa], you can see the improvement we’re making as a team. We beat Hungary 2-1 in our World Cup qualifier by scoring a last minute winner. I didn’t get any minutes in this game but it was fantastic to see us grind out a win. Last minute winners are always the best even though it’s a bit of stress to watch beforehand.

There were 6,485 fans in attendance for the game which was exciting and what an atmosphere it was!

Our next game was against Sweden, who were silver medalists at the Olympics so this was a good test for us that we needed to see where we are at as a team.

It was just a friendly but we did very well.

I came on in the last 30 minutes and it was when they brought on a few of their best players who are world class.

This was great for me - I like to be put up against the best because that’s how you improve. We conceded two late goals but we were happy with how we did.

I now have two days off and I’m going to spend my time sleeping and recovering hard as I’m so tired.

I am going back into training ahead of another busy month with Manchester United then if I’m selected, another international camp at the end of November.

I am looking forward to letting you all know how I do. It’s going to be a cold month that’s for sure!
