Brods see-off spirited display from City to storm to the top of the table

-

OLD BRODLEIANS stormed to the top of North One East with a powerful 47-19 home win over Durham City.

It was Rob Jennings who opened the scoring with a try from a quickly taken tap penalty.

Phil Town ran a superb line to split the visitors’ defence and his pace and power left Durham flat footed as he grabbed a self-converted try.

Durham responded well with good handling at close quarters and they moved the ball left to score a fine try.

Brods’ response was immediate however and Jason Dodd used his strength to finish well in the corner.

Town was enjoying his game and he scored his second seven-pointer to extend the lead and bank the bonus point.

Brods’ tight scrum had been solid throughout the first half and from a good position close to the Durham line, Jennings picked up to power over for the fifth try of the half. Town’s conversion propelled Brods into a 31-7 lead at half time.

The visitors were tenacious in their second half response and they forced their way through the defence. The conversion made it 31-14.

Brods needed to reassert themselves and they went close when Jason Dodd broke up the field and found Cole Wilson.

The young prop showed real pace in his run to the line but the ball was dislodged in the act of scoring.

The alarm bells started to ring for Brods when Durham showed great pace to break down the left and good support work and interpassing resulted in a try in the corner.

The Woodhead boys worked hard up the hill to gain a good position and when Durham conceded a penalty, Town converted to extend the lead.

A further penalty achieved the same result and with a lead of 37-19, Brods proceeded to close out the game.

Cameron Wroot capped a fine display with a well taken try following a kick and chase to the left corner. He then followed this up with another try from a similar position.

The final score of 47-19 was a fair reflection of Brods’ dominance of the game against a spirited Durham City side.

On Saturday, Brods make the short journey to local rivals Heath in what should be a cracking game against two sides who have enjoyed a great start to their North One East campaigns.
