MP Holly Lynch on her political heroes and fighting Brexit
Last week the Courier shared an insight into the life of Calder Valley’s MP Craig Whittaker. This week, we’ve been asking the MP for Halifax Holly Lynch about her role.
Ms Lynch has been MP for Halifax since May 2015, winning three general elections.
She is a member of the Labour Party and has been a
Shadow Home Office minister since April 2020. She is also currently on the committee for the Nationality and Borders Bill.
Ms Lynch was born in Halifax and grew up in Northowram. She attended Brighouse High School and studied Politics and History at Lancaster University.
She worked in Subway in Halifax town centre, before joining a small local business involved in exporting Halifax goods around the world. She then worked for Yorkshire
and Humber MEP Linda McAvan before becoming an MP.
Like all MPs, she splits her time between Westminster and her constituency.
While in London, her diary is busy with meetings including with the rest of the Shadow Home Affairs team, debates in the House of Commons and parliamentary votes.
She juggles her Westminster responsibilities and constituencybusiness, andusually travels back to Halifax at the end of the week for more meetings, constituency surgeries and plenty of other activities which can range from doorknockingtocharitycarwashes.
Ms Lynch has also orgaised a citizenship school, consisting of online sessions in the evening for young people in Years 11, 12 and 13. Each session has a different theme and allows teenagers to learn more from experts in their fields.
