Victories all round as local fighters impress in the ring
HALIFAX BOXING Club’s Dylan Daly warmed-up for the club’s home show this weekend with a brilliant performance in the Junior Championships semifinals.
The 15-year-old travelled to Skellow WMC to take on Sheffield Boxing Centre’s Bilal Hussein, a very good young fighter who was unable to cope with the Halifax boxer’s power and fitness.
Dylan bossed the contest to win his second semi-final of the season and also claim an MTK Gold Cup.
The win now sets-up a final bout against a promising fighter from Hunslet.
Dylan’s stable mate Joe Turner was unfortunate not to get a bout and went straight to the regionals.
Joe will be on the card for Halifax Boxing Club’s show on Friday (February 25) when he fights for the Yorkshire 52kg title.
Dylan will also be on the bill for the show, along with several other top local boxers, in what promises to be a great night of boxing.
■ Three promising fighters from Hebden Bridge Boxing Club all celebrated victories when they travelled to Leeds last week.
Logan Briggs, boxing at 52kg junior, won very convincingly by a unanimous decision, giving his opponent a standing eight count in the first round and going on to win the next two rounds comfortably.
Next up was Kabheer Ahmed, boxing at 64kg in a youth bout, and he also claimed victory by a unanimous decision following a disciplined and impressive performance.
And the club’s hat-trick was secured when Kai Fenton, in another youth bout at 76kg, triumphed thanks to a third round stoppage. Kai had his opponent on his back in the second round and on very unsteady legs before finishing off the bout in style.
