Landmark first victory for L Plates in Triples

THE RESULT of the week in Division Two of Halifax Bowling Club’s Friday Triples was the first ever win for new team L Plates (Ann Martin, Irene Sweetman, Lorraine Boulton), who beat high-flying Focus (Alan Singleton, John Crowson, Chris Lindsey) 13-10.

Valley Boys (Nick Blackburn, Keith Hanson) are riding high in the Monday Evening Pairs and their latest success was an emphatic 20-4 triumph over father and son David and Ian Ryding (SID).

Blue Woods (Gordon Bradford, Andy Balmforth) saw-off Marbles (Ian Smith, Philip Holroyd) in an impressive 14-6 win while struggling Holly’s Heroes (Heather Smith, Pauline Holroyd) and Leathered (Sandra Cooper, Danny Leather) played out a closefought 9-9 stalemate.

Valley Boys had a good week in Division One of the Tuesday Evening Pairs edging SID (John Sharp, Steve Swallow) 6-5.

In Division One, leaders Dumb & Dumber (Scott Smith, Tom Gasson) beat reigning champions Little & Large (Steve Rothwell, John Beverley) 10-9.

Springers (Jennifer Templeton, Hazel Garside, Kath Taliku, Maywyyne Denby) turned in a fine performance in Division Two of the Wednesday Fours as they beat high-flying Guys & Dolls (Jeff Dovernor, Ron Bax, Donald Rawson, Lorraine Boulton) 11-8.

Rascals (Sandra Cooper, Derek Squires, Steve Webster, David Laycock) beat the unbeaten Incredibowls (Barbara Gee, Jimmy Bainbridge, Tony James, Andrew Gee) 13-5 in the Monday Afternoon Fours.

Rascals went into an early lead and put the pressure on the Incredibowls’ players as Webster, playing at number three for his team, played several important shots, knocking out scoring shots and bowling in extras.

In the early stages of the game, Rascals’ skip Laycock saved several ends as he bowled in for shot.

Well Bowled (Brian Winrow, Chris Dunwell, Douggie Hamilton, Nick Blackburn) and Rascals are now joint second in the table.

Well Bowled beat Ever Hopeful (Kath Webster, Ann Oates, Joan Hallowes, Ann Mullaney) 18-7.
