Week off has given squad the chance to recover

More importantly than putting on a show for the cameras, Halifax will be targeting the two points after winning just one of their opening four Championship games this season.

Halifax are currently 11th in the league and are the only team in the bottom eight with a positive points difference - a fact which underlines just how close their defeats have been.

The Panthers will enter Monday’s game on the back of dramatic back-to-back losses against Featherstone in the Challenge Cup and Championship.

Despite valiant displays in both fixtures, Grix is hoping his side can show further improvement against Leigh adding: “We’re not always going to get the results throughout the season. It’s a tough competitive league, as we all talk about and we all understand.

“Making sure performance is on the up all the time is the important bit. Even when you got to the ‘mastered it’ sort of stage, you still need to be looking for ways to improve.

“We’re like no one else in that regard, we’ll keep looking to get better every week. That’s collectively and individually because obviously, it all ads up at the end.”

Meanwhile, Louis Jouffret’s hamstring injury is not as bad as first expected according to Grix.

The Frenchman was unable to finish the game against Featherstone two weeks ago after pulling up with a hamstring problem.

Grix said: “He’s not as bad as first feared but he might miss the next couple.”

The Fax boss added: “We had a few head knocks in the [Rovers] game, which fortunately, the lads all passed them at the time. But we’re going to be cautious with them as well.

“We’ve got the luxury of doing so with having the week off. We don’t have to push Cory [Aston] and Joe Arundel. We don’t have to push them overly hard this week with that weekend off. Bit of an opportunity to refresh before we go into another big one with Leigh.”

The Centurions were in action last Monday as they booked their place in the sixth round of the Challenge Cup with a 20-16 win over Bradford Bulls.
