League leaders Valley Boys just about edge crunch clash against Blue Woods

THE BIG game of the week in the Monday Evening Pairs at Halifax Bowling Club was between leaders Valley Boys (Keith Hanson, Nick Blackburn) and second in the table Blue Woods (Gordon Bradford, Andy Balmforth).

In a nip and tuck encounter Valley Boys took the honours by 12 shots to 11.

Valley Boys lead the division with 18 points from their 11 games played. Blue Woods are still in second place with 13 points.

Black Cats (Gordon Bradford, Andy Balmforth, John

Sharp, Paul Gill), leaders of Division One in the Wednesday Fours found Illingwort­h (Marion Quick, Alan Cowburn, Stuart Baker, David Laycock) in a determined frame of mind, as end after end the Illingwort­h team thwarted Black Cats as they had just one scoring bowl in the head and Paul Gill, the skip for Black Cats found this bowl difficult to remove.

A fine team effort by Illingwort­h saw them take the honours by 15 shots to 9.

Hard Liners (Keith Owens, Chris Rhodes, Joe Phillips, Tony James) maintained their impressive season with a 12-7 success against Knock Kelly stars (Maureen Holmes, Phil Dunderdale, Keith Burnett, Derek Squires) by 12 shots to 7.

In Division Two of the Wednesday Fours, Focus (Alan Singleton, Eleanor Carney, John Crewson, Chris Lindsey) returned to winning ways with a 15-8 success against Guys & Dolls (Val Bax, Ron Bax, Donald Rawson, Lorraine Boulton).

Springers (Maywynne Denby, Hazel Garside, Avril Humberston­e, Elspeth Hartley) gave a most impressive performanc­e as they beat second in the table Yorkies (Sylvia Allot, Rose O’Leary, John West, John Pickles) by 16 shots to 8.

Larks (Gary Plane, Chris Dunwell, Steve Dunwell) and Focus (Alan Singleton, John Crowson, Richard Booth) played out a thrilling game in Division Two of the Friday Triples.

Focus moved into a 12-0 lead before a superb comeback by Larks saw the final score line 1716 to Focus.

The leaders of the division Hornets (Ken Pigott, Phil Hallowell, Patrick O’Connor) retained their position at the top of the table with a 13-7 success against “L” Plates (Irene Sweetman, Sue Law, Ann Martin )

Halifax Bowling Club will be running a crown green bowling session ‘Learn how to bowl’ on Tuesday mornings from 10.30am to noon, starting on April 5. The club is based on Thrum Hall Lane in Halifax and put out 31 various mixed, ladies only and men only teams into 11 different leagues every week, six days of the week.
