A CALDERDALE DESIGNER has spoken of her expansion plans after her clothing company was announced as a runnerup in the final of the BBC Three show “The Drop”.

Sophie Guy, 28, who made it to the final of the show with her streetwear clothing company Go Guy, narrowly missed out on victory in the climax of the series on Monday.

Sophie founded the business in 2016 while she was in her final year at Leeds Beckett University, studying events management. The idea for the clothing company was born after realising that she could never find anything to wear that was different and unique from everyone else.

The conclusion of the series saw Sophie and two other clothing businesses - Gbabebo and Misemi - go head to head during the final challenge which involved finalists presenting their designs to luxury fashion chain Flannels.

The decision was not easy for Grammy-winning judge Miguel, who crowned Kemi, the designer behind Gbabebo, the winner of the series - leaving Go Guy and Misemi as the runners-up.

Sophie, of Bailiff Bridge, Brighouse, said: “I was super happy to get to the final and it is weird that it is over now. I never expected to get past the first week because I am all self-taught - I thought I would really struggle.

“Kemi is an amazing designer and I love her concept of sustainability. She deserved to win and I can’t wait to see what she

does. I am just so grateful to the BBC for considering me to be on the show and for picking me as one of the top nine creatives in the UK.

“It has opened so many doors for us and I feel like the business is improving so much. I have also improved as a businesswoman,” she added. “My advice for other creatives is that hard

work really pays off. Times get hard but you have to keep going - don’t give up.

After appearing on the show, Sophie is currently planning on launching a sister brand to Go Guy later this year.

The new brand, Impact, will be high-end fashion garments which are gender fluid.

Go Guy, which is based at

Commonside in Batley, is open to the public to try on the garments. However, the business sells its clothing predominantly online at www.goguyclothing. com.

All episode of “The Drop” are now available on BBC iPlayer.
