Rishworthian end campaign with thumping home win over Bees

-

Old Rishworthian ended the Counties 1 Yorkshire season in style by thrashing bottom side Bradford and Bingley 80-21.

Centre Chris Robinson opened the hosts’ account with an unconverted try and while the visitors replied with a penalty, Luke Sutcliffe was on hand to gather Rangi Kui’s delicate chip to touch down.

The Bees hit back with a converted try to close the gap to two points but Callum Heseltine barged over for the home side.

Two penalties in quick succession allowed the visitors back into the game but Rishworthians

regained the upper hand and skipper Doug Heseltine nipped over to put his side 26-16 up at the interval.

The home side made a blistering start to the second half and replacement scrum-half Harry Doherty crossed before Robinson bagged his second try after good work by flankers Billy Smith and Ollie Morris.

Kui crossed in the corner and straight from the restart, prop Brady Dawson broke free to release Doug Heseltine for his second try.

Shortly after, the ball was moved across the field and wing Anthony Shoesmith almost scored before getting the ball to Kui for his second of the game.

Rishworthians relaxed a little and the visitors grabbed an unconverted second try from a forward drive.

But with less than 10 minutes to go there was still time for the home men to run in three more tries. Shoesmith crossed before Australian prop Dawson, in his final game for Rishworthians, scored and then landed a successful touchline conversion after Shoesmith had scored the final try of the game.
