Halifax-based motorcycle racer Max Wadsworth is gearing up for a new challenge this year when he will compete in the 2024 British Supersport Championship.

He will ride for Macadam Racing, who will field two riders in the ultra-competitive domestic series.

The team, run by Dave Wadsworth, are aiming to be championship contenders this year, having switched over to Triumph motorcycles for the new season after previously fielding Yamahas.

Max Wadsworth started his riding career in a wet car park where he learned to ride a second-hand Polini Minimoto at the age of six.

His first race was in 2001, held at Whilton Mills karting circuit where he finished third. Several years later he competed in multiple British Mini-moto championships. He went on to finish second in the North of England and Easter Counties Mini Moto Championship.

By 2008 Wadsworth had progressed to the 125 PREGP championship, where he competed as a privateer.

He rode for LR Racing and finished as the top privateer in fifth place, behind Maverick Vinales who won the championship, secondplaced Alex Rins and Miguel Oliveira in third.

In 2011 Wadsworth had progressed to the European 600 Superstock championship where he rode for Team ASPI. Between 2015 and 2021 Wadsworth competed in the Thundersport GB Championship in the UK in the Supersport Elite 600 championship, where he finished runner-up several times.

Wadsworth graduated to the British Supersport grid in 2022 and the following year he moved into the Macadam Racing team, riding a Yamaha R6 on which he finished regularly inside the top ten.

This year, Wadsworth will continue in the British

Supersport championship, now riding for Macadam Triumph Racing onboard a Triumph 765cc triple.

Wadsworth said: “I’m really excited to be on the Triumph next year, and I believe there is a lot of potential in the bike to be competitive.

"I’m hoping for an injuryfree season, as the last two years have been difficult. I aim to be in the top 10 and then build from there.”

Wadsworth will be joined by 2015 champion Luke Stapleford. The team’s 2024 Supersport campaign kicked off at Donington Park over the weekend of April 6 and 7, when they carried out their first official test of the season.

This was Wadsworth’s first opportunity to test the bike before the opening round in Spain and there were promising signs. Despite facing less than ideal conditions, he ended the two-day test with the seventh fastest time.

The 11-round championship kicks off at the Circuito de Navarra, in Spain, on April 20 and 21 before returning to the UK at Oulton Park, raced over the bank holiday weekend of May 4 to 6.

Season dates: Round 1 Circuito de Navarra Apr 20-21; Round 2 Oulton Park May 4-6; Round 3 Donington Park GP May 17-19; Round 4 Knockhill June 14-16; Round 5 Snetterton Jul 5-7; Round 6 Brands Hatch GP Jul 19-21; Round 7 Thruxton Aug 9-11; Round 8 Cadwell Park Aug 24-26; Round 9 Oulton Park Sept 13-15; Round 10 Donington Park GP Sept 27-29; Round 11 Brands Hatch GP Oct 11-13.
