Armed raid on bookies leaves staff traumatise­d

Staff at a Blantyre bookies were left shattered after an armed robber made off with cash from the shop.

The man, wearing a ski mask, threatened staff and customers at Ladbrokes in Main Street before escaping with what is believed to be a three-figure haul.

Now detectives are continuing inquiries following last Thursday’s incident.

A police spokesman said that around 12.45pm, a man entered the shop and threatened staff with a weapon.

He demanded money and ran towards Millheugh Place.

There were two members of staff and several customers in the shop when the crime took place.

No one was injured in the incident but staff have been left badly shaken by the event.

CCTV footage is being checked by officers as they try to obtain further details about the suspect.

He is described as around 5ft7ins in height, with a slim build and wearing a black Nike threequart­er length football jacket.

He was also wearing darkcolour­ed gloves, light-coloured trousers and trainers.

DC Debbie Walker said:“the area would have been busy at the time of the incident and I’m appealing for anyone with any informatio­n to contact us. “
