A severely disabled Hamilton youngster was thrilled to take delivery of his favourite toy this week– thanks to kind-hearted workers at a factory.

Ryan Mccabe (4), was born prematurely at 27 weeks weighing only 2lbs 5ozs.

The brave tot battled through but suffers from cerebral palsy and will never walk or sit unaided and has a special chair to get around.

He also has hearing loss and cannot communicate at all.

Ryan attends nursery at the Early Learning Centre in Hamilton and fell in love there with play equipment called the Beactive Box.

“It’s his favourite toy, he just loves it,” said mum Stephanie (25).

“His face just lights up when he sees it.

“He enjoys it so much that I thought it would be a good idea to get him one for the house.

“But when I inquired about it I was shocked to find that it costs £400 to buy,” said the Fairhill mumof-two.

“I’m a single parent so, sadly, the cost meant it was out of the question for me to buy one for Ryan.”

However, Stephanie put a request on Lanarkshire Buy and Sell on Facebook to see if anyone could provide one at a cheaper cost.

“Out of the blue, someone I don’t even know contacted me to say that he and his work colleagues at Prosigns in Glasgow would build one for me.”

And Stephanie was even more surprised when the man said it wouldn’t cost her a penny.

“I was overwhelmed. It was such a nice gesture from people who didn’t know us at all.”

So the generous staff at Prosigns, led by operations manager Chris Cairns, set to the task of building a custom-made Beactive Box for Ryan.

“They did it out with images of his favourite character Mr Tumble from the Cbeebies show Something Special.

“And printed on the side are the words Ryan’s Something Special – that is such a fantastic touch to have made it so personal,” added Stephanie.

“I can’t thank everyone at Prosigns enough for what they have done. To show such compassion for complete strangers is a great effort from them.”

There was a further kind gesture from the firm when Chris Cairns delivered the box to Stephanie there was an envelope with £25 of vouchers for her to buy extra toys to hang on it for Ryan.

Chris Cairns from Prosigns said: “I saw Stephanie’s message on Facebook and couldn’t believe the crazy prices she was being quoted.

“To be honest, I think people were just taking advantage of her.

“We decided we would get on with it and give her a hand. We were delighted to be able to help.

“It makes it so worthwhile when I saw Ryan’s face lighting up when I delivered it to him.”

Chris says every department in the firm was involved.

“People gave up their own time to complete the project – but everyone was happy to do so.

“It was tricky to make because it is completely different to what we do commercially. But we had the machinery and were able to pull it off,” added Chris.

Prosigns are based in Queenslie Industrial Estate, Glasgow, and manufacture signage for major housebuilders.
