Police have new powers to tackle problem of ‘legal highs’

with increased powers to tackle those who produce and sell psychoacti­ve substances.

In recent weeks we have received a number of complaints about youth disorder near to Porters Well and Cobblerigg Way, Uddingston. Large quantities of alcohol has been seized and persons have been charged with alleged drug offences, where Class A drugs were recovered.

We have been providing and will continue to provide additional patrols to this area. Safety of young people is a priority, however we are taking a zero tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour in this area.

Drugs were also recovered from a house in Fleming Way, Hamilton on May 29. Whilst on an unrelated enquiry officers found a number of cannabis plants. A 33-year- old male was arrested and charged with the alleged production of the plant and also a quantity of cannabis resin.

He is due to appear at court later this month.

Around 1am on Monday, May 28, a resident of Hardie Street, Blantyre, reported an assault near his house after he challenged the behaviour of three young men. The men were wearing hoodies and had their faces concealed.

Bob’s MOT Centre, Dunedin Road, Larkhall, was subject of a break-in overnight on Thursday, May 26. No items were stolen and police are checking CCTV at other premises within the industrial estate and have carried out a scenes of crime examinatio­n.
