Man jailed after £6000 drugs haul

A Blantyre man caught with cocaine and cannabis worth a total of almost £6000 has been caged.

James Gilmour (34), admitted a charge of possessing cannabis resin, and a charge of being concerned in the supply of cocaine, at his Teviot Way home on July 2, last year.

During proceeding­s, fiscal depute Lauren Mcrobert told Hamilton Sheriff Court that, following intelligen­ce, police officers sought and were granted warrants for Gilmour’s address.

They attended there and detained the accused.

During a search of the house and the car they discovered a number of items, including cash.

Drugs, including cocaine and cannabis, were also recovered.

The total value of the cocaine found was estimated at £3846.73.

There were also three separate bags of cannabis resin, weighing 2.33g, 191.6g and 225.27g — a total weight of 419g.

With cannabis worth £5 per gram, the total value of the drug was £2097.87, she said.

Ms Mcrobert also pointed out that £6883.14 car and home in cash was recovered during the search.

The total value of the cannabis and the cocaine was £5944.60.

Last week, following a criminal justice social work report and restrictio­n of liberty order assessment, Sheriff Ray Small jailed Gilmour for a total of 16 months.

He was handed four months’ jail for possessing cannabis and 16 months’ in prison for intent to supply cocaine.

Both sentences run concurrent­ly.
