Helping out the Haven

Charity visit school

- Leona Greenan

Staff from Lanarkshire-based charity The Haven Centre continued their tour of the county’s schools with a visit to Braidwood Primary School, Carluke.

With centres in Blantyre, Forth and Wishaw, they have teamed up with the Hamilton Advertiser to promote their services across the region.

Organised by the Advertiser, the visit included a talk followed by a question and answer session with The Haven’s fundraising officer Scott Cunningham.

Scott said: “We’re delighted to be visiting as many local schools as possible and telling them all about the terrific work of The Haven.

“So many people are unaware that we exist and it is our mission to raise awareness of our services, as well as funds for the charity.”

Staff from The Haven will also visit St Cuthbert’s in Burnbank, St Mark’s in Hamilton, St Bride’s in Bothwell and High Blantyre Primary in the coming weeks.

The Haven offer support for those affected by lifelimiting illnesses but staff insist that many still do not know they exist – a fact we now hope to change.

Being diagnosed with an illness such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease and Parkinson’s disease is a lifechanging event, not only for the individual but for their whole family. The Haven help individuals cope with the physical, emotional and practical aspects.

If any other schools or businesses would like a visit, contact Advertiser reporter Leona Greenan on 01698 205179 or email at leona. greenan@trinitymirror.com.
