Summer fairs are a class act

- Kirsten Mcstay

The competition is run by SCILT in conjunction with the University of Strathclyde and St Andrew’s University and is aimed at young language learners to improve their pronunciation and breadth of vocabulary.

Participants have to correctly spell as many words as possible in Spanish in a minute, using the Spanish alphabet.

All of this in front of an audience of MSPS, representatives from the European Commission, representatives from various embassies and the judges from Strathclyde and St Andrew’s Universities.

Not only does the competition improve pupils’ linguistic skills but also study skills and memory.

St John Ogilvie head teacher Eddie Morrison said: “The girls all agreed that it was a superb event. They are all keen to continue learning Spanish and hope to become fluent one day. They are already well on their way!” Udston Primary are hosting their annual summer fair on Saturday, June 4 from 10am till noon.

There will be a variety of stalls including ‘Say It With A Frame’, Serena’s Cakes and Crafts, Shell’s Jewels and Gems, Candy Cart, and Sew off the Hook.

A home baking stall will also be there on the day to sell some scrumptious treats. Be sure to look out for many opportunities to win great prizes at the fantastic raffle and tombola table.

Kids can get their nails and faces painted as well as have fun on the bouncy castle and digger.

There will be tea, coffee, hotdogs and even a delicious chocolate fountain to indulge in. The primary school has even hinted that there may be a special guest appearance.

The event is free for everyone and the school would like to welcome anyone along to join in the fun.

St Mark’s Primary School’s Summer Fair will take place this Saturday, June 4, from noon until 3pm.

It is set to be a fantastic day with lots to keep the whole family entertained.

There will be a great selection of stalls selling unique and handmade items and all the usual fun stalls like tombolas, face painting and glitter tattoos.

There will also be a DJ playing requests, a bouncy castle, photobooth and other fun activities for all.

There will be a selection of food and drink on offer and ice lollies and ice cream.
