Students put art on show

College praises girls’ talent

- Shirley Bartynek

Visitors to the Advanced Higher art show at Hamilton College ‘The Pen, The Brush, The Knife’ enjoyed an exhibition of outstanding quality.

At the opening night head of art Alan Wilson said: “The exhibition that Imogen Brown, Louise Reynolds and Sarah Statham have put on is a credit to their ambition and a culmination of years of creative energy.

“They have really invested themselves in furthering their artistic growth this year.”

The exhibition was very well attended and the support of everyone who went along was much appreciated by the young artists and Mr Wilson.

Mr Wilson said: “The overall reception the work was given was full of praise, not only because of the skill level on show but the ideas that were being engaged.

“It did not look like the work of school pupils.

“The work was the focus and a real talking point for everyone there.”

He added: “Of course Imogen, Louise and Sarah, no matter how gifted, are just beginning the creative journey and there will be many ups and downs.

“But from what was on show at their exhibition we know that solid foundations have been laid for them to face the future with a positive determination.

“I wish them a blessing from the giver of every good gift and say what my old primary teacher said to me many years ago: ‘You can’t waste God’s gift, can you?.’”

All three pupils have been accepted to art school.

Louise and Imogen, both from Hamilton, are going to the Glasgow School of Art and Sarah, of Cumbernauld, will go to Edinburgh College of Art.
