On June 23, there will be a referendum asking if the UK should remain a member of the European Union or leave.

You can vote in this referendum if you are registered to vote in the UK, are 18 or over on June 23 and are: A British or Irish citizen living in the UK; or a Commonweal­th citizen living in the UK or who has leave to remain in the UK or who does not require leave to remain in the UK; or a British citizen living overseas who has been registered to vote in the UK in the last 15 years.

Residents can register to vote online at www.gov. uk/register-to-vote or by calling 0800 030 4333 for a registrati­on form to posted to your home.

If you won’t be able to go to a polling station, and you are registered to vote, you can apply for a postal or proxy vote using the About My Vote web site at www. aboutmyvot­e.co.uk.

The deadline for new postal and postal proxy votes is 5pm on Wednesday, June 8 and for new proxy votes, it is 5pm on Wednesday, June 15.
