Local firm backs epilepsy event in memory of teens

-

A Larkhall company have shown their support for a show jumping event which will be held in memory of two young men.

The event is being supported by 1st Choice Supplies, in Strutherhill, with Barry Savage who is going to attend on the day as a judge and business partner Thomas Mccabe who will be donating rosettes.

Family and friends have organised the event to raise money in memory of Kieran Lyon and Garry Wilson.

Garry from Bellshill passed away following a seizure aged 15, while Kieran died from SUDEP (sudden and unexpected death in epilepsy) earlier this year, at his home in Ayrshire aged only 19.

A collection taken at his funeral raised £300 for Epilepsy Scotland, but family and friends have pledged to raise more money and awareness of the condition.

Hundreds of horse enthusiasts are set to attend the event at Morris Equestrian Centre, Kilmarnock, on Sunday, June 5, from 9am, with profits going to Epilepsy Scotland.

Friends of both bereaved families have been overwhelmed by the support they have received for the event, with hundreds of pounds in sponsorship raised in advance.

Up to 100 epilepsy-related deaths occur in Scotland each year and over half of these are estimated to be linked to SUDEP.

Rosettes will be given to winners on the day by event organisers and Epilepsy Scotland Chief Executive Lesslie Young.
