DJ Connor follows his musical dreams

Twelve- year-old DJ is hoping to make it big

- Kirsten Mcstay

Connor Moran has been branded Hamilton’s youngest DJ and even dedicates his spare time playing sets at Hillhouse and Earnock Community centre.

The 12-year-old St Ninian’s pupil has had a passion for music for a few years and when he suggested to his mum Caroline that he wanted to sell his games console to buy music equipment, she thought it was a great idea.

Connor said: “It was something different and I thought it was a good way to spend time and hopefully others will get enjoyment from what I do.”

The youngster, who will be going to high school after the summer, decided that he would volunteer at youth clubs, halls and parties.

His mum Caroline is extremely proud of him, and she said: “He has been interested in doing something like this for a wee while now. He is too young to be paid to do it so he just volunteers at different things but he is absolutely loving it.

“He is so independent and I’m really happy he is doing something he loves.”

Connor has set up a Facebook page and has even made business cards to help him get his name out there and gain a bit more experience.

The music enthusiast is also really involved with the Community Links organisation and often volunteers to do the music at events they host.

Francesca Lynch from Community Links thinks that the aspiring DJ is an absolute credit.

She said: “Connor started coming in to our community cafe in Hillhouse every Tuesday after school and quickly became friendly with our staff and volunteers.

“He is a very personable boy who is keen to help out and be involved in local activities.

“Everyone is impressed with Connor’s professionalism and confidence – it really is hard to believe that he is so young.”

Connor has now expressed an interest in volunteering more with Community Links and the Friends of Glenlee and Udston Woods, which both organisations are really looking forward to.

Francesca added: “We are looking forward to working with him more and seeing all that he will accomplish – which based on what he has done so far, will be amazing.”

Connor looks up to the likes of Scottish DJ Calvin Harris and hopes to one day be as successful as him.

He said: “My musical inspiration is Calvin Harris because he is a fantastic DJ and very talented.

“I would love to run my own DJ business, travel the world and do gigs like T in the Park.”
