Jags stun Cairn in Cup

-

Rutherglen ..... 1 Larkhall .......... 2

Larkhall Thistle ripped up the form book to beat Super First Division side Rutherglen Glencairn in the Euroscot Engineering Central League Cup quarter-final last Wednesday.

To reach next Wednesday’s final at Cambuslang, Larkhall need to have gone one better by ousting Super Premier side Pollok in the semi-final last night (Wednesday).

The winner will meet either St Anthony’s or Greenock on June 15.

Graham Gracie was spot-on to notch a double as Jags stunned Glens at the new Clyde Gateway Stadium .

Glens started the game on the attack, but it was Thistle who produced the early goal threat as David Reid volleyed wide, Brian Jack curled an effort past and Josh Payne was off-target with a header.

Jags scored in 31 minutes when Gracie, who is enjoying a great scoring run, latched onto a knock- on at the back post to net.

Scott Nicholl almost caught the Glens goalkeeper out with a cheeky lob, then Payne went close before Glens levelled from a free kick 10 minutes from time.

However, Thistle were awarded a penalty in the closing minutes and Gracie kept his nerve to slot it into the net.

Manager Duncan Sinclair said: “We played really well and dominated. I think we deserved to win, but it was a real sickener to lose such a freakish goal late in the game.”
