A ‘moss-see’ piece of art
Hamilton teenager Shannon Strang won an art competition thanks to her innovative use of moss.
The 19-year-old entered a New College Lanarkshire competition to create artwork for Hostelling Scotland.
Winning designs will be used to transform the Crianlarich Youth Hostel and enhance the guest experience.
Shannon studies HNC Art & Design at the Cumbernauld campus, and used moss to tie a scene of Crianlarich together with the natural beauty of its surroundings.
After working on the project for five months, three winning student creations were announced at the college’s annual Art & Design end-of-year exhibition, which took place recently at the Coatbridge campus.
And as one of the winners, Shannon will receive a two-night stay at any youth hostel.
Lecturer Kelly Cunningham said: “Our students had a very clear brief and the variety of ideas produced was just incredible. They have greatly enjoyed the experience of working on a live development with a real client. It is exciting to think that our students’work could now be viewed by both national and international visitors to the hostel.”
Amy Pierzchalo of Hostelling Scotland said:“we really appreciate the work put into this project by the students of New College Lanarkshire and wish the students involved all the best.”
