Contesting national final is a cut above
Callum meets hero
Talented Hamilton hair stylist Callum Percival met his idol at the finals of a major competition.
Callum (18), was a finalist in the Wella Xposure contest held in London, last week.
The young Laighstonehall man had qualified for the glitzy occasion as one of the Scottish regional winners at a hairdressing competition held earlier in the year.
“It was great to be involved in such a major event and I was just delighted to be there,” said Callum.
“I made it through to the last 16 and I was so proud to have made it that far.”
But the icing on the cake for the talented young crimper was meeting up and chatting with his idol, Patrick Cameron.
Callum said: “He has been an inspiration to me for years. I’ve always loved and respected what he has done.
“To meet up with him and receive advice from someone who is a legend in the hairdressing business was an absolutely fantastic experience. “He gave me great feedback.” And keeping things in the family, Callum took his sister Lisamarie Stewart (26), as his model.
“I only had one hour in the final to style my model’s hair,” he said.
“But I was delighted at how it turned out – it was exactly as I had envisaged it in my head. The only disappointment was that I didn’t win.
“But it has made me more determined than ever to keep doing what I am.”
He has worked for two years at Brownlie and Brownlie in Cadzow Street, Hamilton.
His boss, salon owner Lisa Brownlie, praised her young employee.
“We are delighted for Callum,” she said.
“I recognised his potential straight away – he’s really talented.”
